What are antislip mats or mats – these are base materials and spacers made of high friction materials can be used to increase friction between the platform and the load, and also, if necessary, between the tiers of the load.

Due to their high coefficient of friction, these materials reduce the possibility of cargo slipping on smooth loading surfaces. Currently, there are various types of materials with a high coefficient of friction (over 0.6). Materials, such as rugs, rubber mats and paper sheets, sheet pallets) covered with a friction material. They are used in conjunction with other fastening methods.

An example of calculating the fastening with a clamp and what effect antislip mats can give.

Let us consider the option of determining the required number of belts when securing a load weighing 1000 kg to prevent its displacement in the longitudinal direction.

Conditions: С = 0.8, µ = 0.3 (on average, without the use of antislip mats), α = 80º, for a load weighing 1000 kg, ratchet belts STF = 250 daN. (Fv – pressing force С – coefficient of acceleration of inertial force, µ – coefficient of friction).

The required downforce will be determined as:

Fv = (C – μ) / (μ × sin α) × Fg = (0.8 – 0.3) / (0.3 × 0.9848) × 1000 × 9.8 = 16585 daN.

Then, the number of belts required to secure a load weighing 1000 kg to prevent its displacement in the longitudinal direction will be:

K = Fv / Fvst.р = 16585 / (250 × 1.5) = 44.2 i.e. 45 lashing belts.

A reduction in the number of lashing belts can be achieved by using antislip materials, i.e. an increase in the coefficient of friction. The use of antislip mats with a friction coefficient of 0.6 can reduce the number of tie straps required by up to five times:

Fv = (C – µ) / (µ × sin α) × Fg = (0.8 – 0.6) / (0.6 × 0.9848) × 1000 × 9.8 = 3317 daN.

K = Fv / Fvst.р = 3317 / (250 × 1.5) = 8.84 i.e. 9 lashing straps.
